Pink Lake Rottnest Print
This Jane Coffey illustration is inspired by the communities of samphire plants surrounding Pink Lake on Rottnest Island, Western Australia. The pink colour of the lake is partly caused by the algae, Dunaliella salina. It contains a naturally occurring pink substance called beta-carotene and as the shrimp eat these algae, it gives them a red colour too.
