Gerry Reilly
Gerry has been blowing glass in Western Australia since the early 1980s, after completing his early training on the east coast he is now based in the Margaret River at The Melting Pot Glass Studio. His unique designs and vibrant colours have marked his continuing presence in the Australian Studio glass movement. Over the years he has spent his time working in small studios and attending numerous workshops in advanced techniques with glass artists from Italy, USA, England and Australia.
Gerry’s work is influenced by early Venetian & Islamic glass techniques, he works with transparent molten glass gathered over a base colour, which is then rolled into various combinations of coloured glass frits and powders. Then details such as a serpentine line of silver-blue for his signature Cracked Earth/Desert series are added last before all are fused into the surface and blown. His inspiration coming from the colours of the West Australian landscape.
His artworks are represented in public and private collections around Australia and overseas, including the Ebeltoft Glasmuseum Denmark, Queensland State Collection and University of South Australia Collection. He has created commissions for clients as varied as the Prime Minister's Department’s CHOGM diplomatic gifts 2001-2002; Sultan of Brunei, King of Thailand and Danish Ambassador's collection; International Surf Masters Trophies 1993-2002; Hamersley Iron and Woodside Petroleum corporate gifts and Holmes A Court Collections.
Made in Western Australia.
