Tania Porter
From the depths of the ocean to the lush green forests is where Tania Porter’s inspiration is drawn, and she is lucky enough to be surrounded by both in her cosy Denmark studio. Tania’s works are usually one off or limited edition pieces, small and precious, with a personal narrative.
Tania’s life as an artist didn’t start until much later than most, although she distinctly remembers having a curious and creative mind as a child. After many years doing work she really wasn’t cut out for, Tania found the courage to go to night school and there began her wonderful journey.
Tania’s first encounter with kiln formed glass was on an art course in 2004 in the UK and where she was immediately captivated by the glass process. Tania continued her studies for the next three years at the inspirational Richmond Adult Community College in London, whilst also setting up her own studio. Tania then extended her studies even further at the prestigious Central St Martin’s College of Art right in the bustling heart of London.
Circumstances lead Tania back to Western Australia, where she has set up a new studio in the South West and is expanding her knowledge and skill, and learning new and exciting techniques from visiting international artists.
Although Tania has dabbled in many things artistic, her heart has now settled on glass. She loves playing with its jewel like colours, texture and unpredictability as much as she loves the structure and discipline involved in putting a piece together and determining how to make it come to fruition.
Made in Western Australia.
